A difficult video that I can now watch

January 23, 2023

This video shows the last 4 weeks of Miss Beans struggle with wet FIP.  She spent most of that time in the excellent care of the UC Davis researchers, staff, students, and volunteers.   I would drive up twice a week to spend a day or two with her, playing with her when she felt good and just letting her lay on my chest and listen to music when she was not feeling well.  While she kept bouncing back from each setback, eventually there were fewer good days until finally her body could not endure any more.

After 2 years I am finally able to watch this video all the way through.  And while it is profoundly sad to watch Bean gradually lose her ability to enjoy life, i can channel that grief into working harder to help end FIP.  When I get discouraged and think about giving up, Miss Beans story, and all the others like it make quitting impossible.

I know this video is long and may not be for everyone.  I share it to document how hard it was for Bean and every kitten or cat that loses their life to FIP and to let those losing cats to FIP now know that their pain is understood.

The music is one of the two songs I played on a loop that Bean seemed to like.  She was a beautiful kitten and she should be remembered

The next post will be about Smokey.
