FIP Warrior:

Zipper

Zipper is our 7 month old kitten who was recently diagnosed with FIP. We adopted this sweet baby the end of January 2022 and my kids immediately fell in love! She was just what our family needed. Our 4 year old is absolutely obsessed and totes her around everywhere.

About 3 days ago, I noticed her behavior changing and her appetite drop. The next day her breathing was labored and she had fluid coming out her nose, and her gums were super pale.

We rushed her to the vet where she was cared for by an amazing team. She was anemic, turning blue from lack of oxygen and found to have over 15ml of fluid in her chest. In such critical condition, they were only able to drain the 15ml from her chest which eased the pressure on her lungs and get her some fluids and oxygen.

I thought I was going to lose her. I've lost a cat to FIP before there was a treatment. Thank heavens for social media and animal lovers! I shared what was happening in her adoption group page and within minutes, I was referred to a group that has since been able to help us get on the path to helping Zipper. She went from a 3-5% chance of living and possibly having to put her down to her chances being 80-90%.

She is on day 2 of her journey and we have high hopes!
