FIP Warrior:

Yushi

At 9 months old Yushi started to get sick. It was the kind of sickness that appeared as just a cold at first, one that the vet believed only required the typical antibiotics. For 6 weeks, though, I took her back and forth to the vet because she would have a new symptom appear right after we left the vet. She continued to be on antibiotics until my vet recommended we do bloodwork because she was very concerned. What we feared the most became our reality. She was diagnosed with dry FIP. I was told that I had two options: to give her medication to make her comfortable in her final days or try this experimental treatment. Within a few hours of hearing the news, I decided there wasn't anything I could do because I couldn't financially afford to. I cried myself to sleep that same night, but then woke up with a completely different mindset. I wanted to help her fight for her life. I contacted FIP warriors to get a vial of medication, set up a GFM for Yushi, and got over my fears of giving her an injection. This all happened in a span of three days. The hardest three days I had experienced in a long, long time. We started the treatment and within 7 days, Yushi went from a frail kitten who slept all the time, to a slightly heavier kitten who wanted to play again. My heart was FULL. I cried when she played with her laser again, because it had been almost seven weeks since she even wanted to do so.

Fast forward a few weeks and Yushi was still improving. Except, she was starting to get these nasty sores all over her back. I took her to the vet to get them examined and I was told her skin was dying. Now I know sores are expected, but at the rate she was getting them it raised a lot of concern. Concern that she was in a lot of pain and that she would continue to have these sores pop up. We decided very quickly that she needed to be switched to pills. The pro about pills is that with a little bit of yummy treats, Yushi eats them right up. The con...they're expensive. Like whole paycheck every two weeks expensive ($800 to be exact).

Right now we are almost to the halfway point of her treatment and I couldn't be happier! She's back to being a spunky kitten and living her life to the fullest and its SO worth it. But truth be told, I can't financially do this on my own. I'm blowing through my savings at a rapid rate, which is what they're there for, but I also have my own bills to pay. I'm a full-time student who had to go back to working full-time when Yushi got sick. When the semester is over, I'm going to try and pick up an additional part-time job to help pay for the medication. I've already maxed out my credit card on vet bills and she STILL has to go back at least three more times for bloodwork. I need serious help. Yushi and I need help getting through this. I know it's a lot to ask right now given the crisis we're in with covid, but if you're able to donate and looking to do so, I ask that you please consider donating to us. And even if you're unable to donate, I ask that you please share our story. We could use all the help anyone is able to offer. We're so incredibly grateful for the support we've received so far and we will continue to thank you all for what you've been able to offer.

Much love,
Han
