FIP Warrior:

Tucker

We adopted Tucker on 12/6/18 when he was just 4 months old. Over the next couple of months, I noticed it sounded like he was wheezing when he was breathing. I kept taking him to the vet, but they could never hear anything when they listened to him. Tucker was initially an energetic kitten. However, he started to slow down and was not has much of a crazy kitten as usual. We thought he was just maturing. Fast forward to May 2019 and his breathing was becoming more visibly difficult and he was not eating and playing as much. I took him to the vet on 5/22/19 and that’s when I learned about FIP. He had fluid in his chest, which was drained. We were told that there is no cure for FIP and that all we could do was “make him comfortable”. He was prescribed a steroid, an appetite stimulant, and we were given plenty of morphine to help ease any pain he may have been in. Not wanting to simply give up, I immediately started researching clinical trials and reached out to individuals at several universities across the US. Not a single phone call or e-mail went unanswered, even if they didn’t have the answers I was hoping for. However, I was told there was a FIP support group on Facebook, which I immediately joined. Within 20 mins of scrolling through posts, I learned about another group of individuals using GS and joined. Tucker received his first GS-441524 injection on 5/29/19 and has successfully completed 7 weeks of treatment. His starting weight was 6.4lbs and now weighs 8.2 lbs! We got labs drawn after 4 weeks of treatment and his vet was impressed at how much improvement he made in just 4 weeks! He is back to being a crazy kitten and we are so grateful for all the support we’ve received. We will continue to update his story!
