FIP Warrior:

Samson

Hello! My name is Lisa Kells and I am raising money for my dear friend Danielle to pay for necessary lifesaving FIP treatment for her beloved cat Samson. On October 8th 2020 when I was working as the feline foster program manager for our city shelter, a tiny fluffy angel arrived at the shelter alone as a stray. Danielle, who was at the shelter getting vaccinations for her foster kittens at the time, fell in love immediately. I kid you not, she shrieked when she first saw him. Right then she started pitching a plan to me on how she would love to take him in and integrate him with the pair of sister kittens she currently had (after a brief quarantine period as is standard) so that he would not have to be alone. Fast forward to when all the kittens were healthy and big enough for spay and neuter surgery, the little girl kittens found a loving home together with a dear friend of hers and while they would be leaving, Samson would never be alone again because his mom knew from the moment she met him that she was going to adopt him and love him forever. Since this day Samson has been a ‘foster uncle’ cat, helping oversee and raise many litters of kittens alongside his mom who has a special place in her heart for saving the tiny, vulnerable kittens in need. After many tiny babies fed, cuddled, raised and saved, Danielle made the career change to shelter work after having found her calling in this field.

On Wednesday, July 21st Danielle awoke to find something undoubtedly wrong with Samson. She felt he had been withdrawing and eating less but she knew it was serious when his first seizure happened. A trip to the vet uncovered a high fever so supportive care treatments were given and bloodwork was taken to investigate further. By Friday, Samson’s seizures were becoming longer and more frequent and Danielle knew she had to get some answers quickly as his condition worsened. Thankfully the vets at our shelter are familiar with FIP and after even more work up and blood work a diagnosis of dry neurological FIP was reached. Through the FIP Warriors group an emergency vial of treatment was able to be secured and thankfully Samson is responding well to treatment. The road ahead will hold twice daily injections for 8-12 weeks with monthly exams and blood panels. I am hoping to raise $1500 to cover these costs and restore sweet Samson back to health so he can have many more years with his human who loves him.
