FIP Warrior:

QT

My QT was admitted into ER last night because of her labored breathing. Doc put her on oxygen, took a chest X-ray and drained fluids(30 ml) from her lungs.Doc said to euthanize her and I panicked because I heard their was a treatment for  FIP. I contacted a rescue (Springfield kitty rescue-Evelyn Borland) and she said she had the meds for FIP. So I told doc I wanted QT to have a blood draw because Evelyn needed QT liver values.Doc said their was a very good chance QT would die if she came off the oxygen fir the blood draw. But, I had to take that chance-she died immediately. My heart is broken.I told Evelyn that QT had gone to the vet a month ago because I thought she had a URI, but she wasn’t showing the runny nose, goopy eyes or sneezing. But, she was lethargic ,not eating and her eye lids were very red . Doc gave some antibodies but after 2 weeks she wasn’t better, so I took her back and she was given a different antibiotic. 2 more weeks and no improvement for her. Very lethargic and not eating a lot. Well, like I said I rushed her to the Er where she died. Evelyn explained that FIP is genetic and it’s possible she was misdiagnosed from the vet. I didn’t think to have bloodwork done because I thought she had a URI. I should have known something else was happening with her because of the lack of other usual symptoms with URI. The red eye lids should have prompted me to ask questions etc, etc.I’ve learned a very hard lesson and lost my baby girl, she was my rescue at 4 wks old, blue eyes, Siamese long hair mix
