FIP Warrior:

Philip

Hello every one, I have been working really hard in our rescue, aside of that, we just got the worst news that a rescue family could have, Philip one of our rescue babies has FIP 😭.

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a viral disease of cats caused by certain strains of a virus called the feline coronavirus. Most strains of feline coronavirus are found in the gastrointestinal tract and do not cause significant disease. These are referred to as feline enteric coronavirus. Cats infected with FeCV usually do not show any symptoms during the initial viral infection, but may occasionally experience brief bouts of diarrhea and/or mild upper respiratory signs from which they recover spontaneously. FeCV-infected cats usually mount an immune response through which antibodies against the virus are produced within 7-10 days of infection. In approximately 10 percent of cats infected with FeCV, one or more mutations of the virus can alter its biological behavior, resulting in white blood cells becoming infected with virus and spreading it throughout the cat’s body. When this occurs, the virus is referred to as the FIPV. An intense inflammatory reaction to FIPV occurs around vessels in the tissues where these infected cells locate, often in the abdomen, kidney, or brain. It is this interaction between the body’s own immune system and the virus that is responsible for the development of FIP. Once a cat develops clinical FIP, the disease is usually progressive and almost always fatal without therapy that has recently become available, but that has yet to be approved to treat FIP in cats by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) coronaviruses cannot be passed from infected cats to humans.

Last Wednesday we took Philip to the Dr, we thought he was with a little infection but this was not the case. We were shocked when he told  us that this beautiful kitty  has this sickness, we were devastated.😢

Philip was rescued  from a horrible place in NJ, he was few weeks old, tiny and cute as hell❤️❤️❤️❤️

He ate a lot of formula and he looked chubs and looked super healthy, however, as soon as he left the bottle he did not like kitten foodat all and I had to trick him all the time for him to eat. Other babies that have been rescued, pass through the same face and  they come out of it  becoming really healthy eaters.

We really thought Philip will have a bright future after his rescued like many others that have been saved and  placed with wonderful families but sadly this is not the case now.

I was nervous about this sickness, FIP was always in the back of my head, I read and learned about it but I did not expected to have any of my kitties sick with it. So sad.

I did everything possible to care and protect the environment here. I  personally cleaned and desinfect  all the litter  boxes in our rescue because I want to make sure that no one gets sick with anything worst with viruses such as FIP.😭

I learned FIP is genetic and unfortunatly even when one is extremely therol  and clean,  Coronavirus is going to infect most cats no matter what anyone do,the majority of them won't get sick, thankfully, the problem arises when Coronavirus mutates into FIP wich is deadly  as explained above.

I can not express how unfair this is for Philip, he is the most sweetest, lovable and caring cat we ever known.  He is a light for us he shines even when he stands in a room full of kitties. Here at the rescue all the cats love him and kiss him all the time. He is loved❤️❤️❤️❤️

PiPi as we call him, always was a finicky eater he liked to be by himself a lot we thought it was his personality.
He was cleared of all sickness, combo tested and he even had a little episode when he got a fever when he was 3 months old and the Dr. told us he was going to be  fine, that he will be healthy after antibiotics and this was true for a little while, but if we look back all the tiny signs of FIP were there. Drs unfortunately misdiagnosed FIP often.

Even though, he was healthy and thriving, he got sick last Wednesday all of the sudden he stopped eating.he was taken to the Dr and was confirmed for FIP, since than, we are in true hell,we cried, beg God to help us and guide us to do the right thing by him. We, as always are going to fight until the end to get him cured, this is a difficult for any cat parent this is one of the hardest test we ever had to gone thru,  but we are willing  and ready to do our best efforts to help him.

We researched few options for treatment of  this sickness and we found a medicine that may be able to cured Philip, It is not  an easy road. This medicine is difficult  to find  and expensive, thankfully we found people that are guiding us and helping us in the process and they are being true angels and a light  in this dark times.
I will mention all this beautiful FIP warriors and how to prevent this sickness in my next post.

Please pray, pray  for Philip and for us to get the strength to surpassed this hard times.

Thank you.🙏❤️
