View All FIP WarriorsOrlando got diagnosed with wet FIP just about a year ago. He is my first cat, and it was like a freight train just collided with me. Neither my vet nor I had any idea anything could be done. After a day of utter despair, I reached out on the internet to anyone and everyone I could think of, other vets, shelters… and I got connected with an admin who changed our death sentence to hope. Within 24 hours the first vials got to my hands, traveling across a border in the middle of COVID lockdown and on loan from other people with cats in treatment. In another 24 hours the stubborn fever was gone, in a week the abdominal fluid was gone and shortly after he was back to his normal 5 months old self, eating, gaining weight, playing, and of course, scaring the hell out of both vets and me with his growling and hissing when it was time for injections. There were days it took three of us to hold him, but we stuck through it because the alternative was unimaginable. We powered through it, keeping to the regime religiously, with all possible help from the support group and the vets, who were learning with us – it was the first cat they’ve treated for FIP now that the option was there. And of course he forgave us all. 😊
Orlando was declared cured in April 2021, and he’s a happy growing MC boy. We got lucky with no relapse, and once he started improving, he just kept improving. Not a hint that he was doomed to die last year. I am so grateful for the science and the huge hearts of everyone making sure that cats have access to this life-saving treatment, it’s impossible to put into words.
