FIP Warrior:

Nicky

Two years ago I was the recipient of a miracle. Something wonderful and life changing appeared in my life. I had been allergic to cats since age eleven, but had not been able to settle with the fact that I could not have the gift of one. Cats, to me, are spiritual and some of the most intriguing, soulful and beautiful animals in existence. Therefore, I decided to overcome my allergies, or at least take all the medicine and allergy shots that is needed to be able to live with a cat. On Monday, August 14, 2017 I walked into Peggy Adams in West Palm Beach to go look at cats and kittens. I visited several rooms with cats, and walked into another one... and a little brown tiger striped domestic short haired cat walked up to me, sat down in front of me looking up at me in a serene manner. I could immediately tell that there was something very very special about this kitty; I know it sounds quite cliched but nevertheless true. I picked him up and he immediately settled against my chest looking straight into my eyes as if saying, “I will take care of you”, and the rest is history. That was my prince and my angel, Nicky, he was  five months old. He picked me into his life and changed mine at the same time. He has taught me kindness, patience, tolerance, forgiveness, but most of all, love. As my friend Lisa says, he was sent to me for a reason. Nicky and I have had our ups and downs; he has been a sickly cat. But, he has never faltered. He has always stayed strong, kind, and giving.  Unfortunately in November 2019 my worst fear came true. Nicky was diagnosed with the fatal and incurable disease FIP. It is believed that it is FIP that caused Nicky’s blindness 1.5 years ago. My vet told me about this experimental treatment that has been successful in many FIP cats, but unfortunately it is not approved by the FDA and is not sold in the US. My belief is that I owe Nicky a fight and I am not ready to let him go, yet, especially if there is a treatment out there that has saved hundreds of FIP doomed cats. ❤️❤️❤️
