FIP Warrior:

Mouse

Mouse has finished observation and been cleared to graduate!!

We adopted Mouse in January as first-time pet owners. We told the foster agency we were first-time pet owners, so we probably needed an easy cat with no unique issues or health problems. Of course, as luck would have it, about a month later her belly swelled up and she stopped playing. A few vet/ER visits confirmed it was wet FIP, and we'd have to choose euthanasia, palliative care for a few weeks, or to join some underground groups to hear more about a secret treatment.
After hearing from lots of reputable folks that GS is the real deal, we went ahead and started treatment that evening. The first injection went so poorly that it brought us to tears, but with the right help and tips from the community, we were able to figure out how to give the injections every day.
It still got way more difficult as Mouse regained her strength - we had some really frustrating evenings where it took 10-12 attempts. She did develop lesions at the injection sites, so we were getting pretty limited in our site options by the end.
Mouse's symptoms were basically gone after 3-4 days of treatment, back to her affectionate and playful self. She developed some mild neuro symptoms in the second week (rear leg weakness), so we upped the dose and the symptoms disappeared. No real issues after that.
We gave 84 injections, then had a nice uneventful observation period afterward. We're so relieved to finally stop worrying and settle down into being normal cat owners now.
We are so grateful for the FIP treatment and community, and look forward to the day when the cure won't have to be such a dark secret.
