FIP Warrior:

Miss

Today is day 1 of Miss's FIP Warrior journey, but I wanted to share a little of her backstory to show how special she and her relationship with her sister Molly is in our little family.

My roommate and best friend had always wanted to adopt a cat for as long as we've lived together, but I was hesitant due to my allergies. Because I felt bad that I was standing in the way of her cat-mom dreams, I surprised her with a reserved visit to a local cat cafe for her birthday. I was nervous to meet the cats at first, but I couldn't help but be drawn to one little kitten in particular, Molly, who would do backflips for belly rubs. Meanwhile, my roommate was falling in love with a majestic kitten in the other room, Miss, but was trying to suppress the feeling to respect my allergies.

When she discovered me softening up to the only other kitten there, she quickly noticed some similarities in their coats and went to ask about their names and backstories. That's when we discovered that we had unknowingly been falling in love with a pair of sisters at the same time. It seemed too good to be true, especially when I realized that I barely had any reaction to either of them. We had the option to only adopt one of them, but we couldn't even dream of separating our beautiful sisters.

Unfortunately, that's a prospect we're now having to reckon with. Since the day we brought them home, Miss and Molly have been inseparable. They snuggle up together all over our apartment and love to play fight (especially in the middle of the night) so we knew something was up when Miss started to isolate herself and hiss when Molly tried to play.

It took a few vet visits to confirm her FIP diagnosis, but the appearance of fluid in her abdomen made it pretty clear. Later that night, we noticed Miss having trouble breathing and decided to take her to the ER. They managed to stabilize her and get her fever down overnight and we started her treatment the next day!

So far none of her symptoms have seriously changed, but with her appetite increasing and continued treatment, we still have hope Miss and Molly can live a long and happy life together.
