FIP Warrior:

Kit Kat

Kit Kat is a 4 year old Maine Coon mix. I was fostering her mom when she was pregnant & Kit Kat was born in my house.  She has never been sick at all since she was born. About 2 months ago she started sneezing and had watery eyes. She had lost a small amt of weight as well. I took her to the vet thinking she had a uri. She had a fever of 104.2. The vet gave her some antibiotics. She didn't seem to get any better after a few days of meds and one of her eyes started to look hazy. Having lost 3 cats in the past to FIP, I knew this wasn't good, so I had the vet do bloodwork. It came back with some of the markers for FIP. I honestly was in denial for a few days. I was hoping it was something else like calici or herpes. I tried a different antibiotic & that didn't work either. I had been following the FIP Warriors page for several months just in case fip ever showed up in my house again. I knew I couldn't afford treatment. I can barely pay my bills each month and I also have a houseful of cats. I use to foster and was a foster fail many times 😻. Anyway, each day she was declining more and more. I didn't have any money to order the meds to get her started. Finally my son said he would pay for a weeks worth of pills to see if it worked. I ordered them but I wasnt sure if she would still be alive when they arrived. Thank god she was. 12 hours after her first dose she was a brand new kitty & within a few days her eye was back to normal. Today, Jan 9th she will get dose #31. She has gained over 2 pounds. She is back to her old sassy self again. Mutian is amazing.  She has 53 more doses to go. Its extremely hard to afford these meds while paying bills and taking care of the other cats but, there were so many success stories, I just couldn't let her die without trying. She is gonna beat this for her 3 fur brothers that we lost to fip. I can't wait until this medicine is approved and is affordable for everyone.
