FIP Warrior:

Humphrey

I got my cat, Humphrey, about three months ago. He was age 2 and had a few known health concerns (enlarged liver, enlarged spleen, and a hernia) but he was expected to live many more happy years.
Once I noticed he had a very swollen belly but the vet told me not to worry. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT YOU SHOULD WORRY ABOUT. When I took him to the vet, they took one look at him and said “yep his liver is failing”. Drained ALL of the fluid (another big no-no) and then told me they would just drain the fluid every two weeks until he died, which would come shortly. It was devastating and I had a gut feeling something wasn’t right. I took him to get a second opinion right away.
By the time I got to the appointment, I was confident he had FIP and I joined a Facebook group to get the GS-441524 medication. The vet agreed his symptoms seemed more in line with wet FIP. A blood test also determined his liver levels were not abnormally high and there was nothing to suggest liver failure. I started him on the medication the next day and have already seen improvements.
Humphrey is a BIG Siberian boy and weighs around 15.8 lbs. His dosage of medication is EXTREMELY expensive. I had made him an Instagram and he had a few hundred followers. I shared my whole journey and when I shared a GoFundMe, they blew it up. In two weeks these cat accounts from all over the world were sharing and donating to me. A few accounts even made a Halloween tshirt campaign to donate all of the funds to me. If it weren’t for them I couldn’t do it. I know this is a long story but I need to express my gratitude for the cat people community. We help one another. If it weren’t for these funds I would not be able to afford this big cat’s quantity of medication. And I intend to pay it forward when I am able. Thank you for reading and I hope you are able to fight this illness.
