Gadget

Just over three years ago, I rescued Gadget from my home with way too many cats. The Woodbridge animal group in New Jersey reached out to me to see if I wanted to adopt him and that I did. Over the next few years, he became an integral part of my small family with me and my now 10 year old cat. Then, in October of this year, I noticed that he was barely eating and was quite lethargic. This was completely not how he normally acted, so I rushed him to my South Jersey veterinarian office whom I had been a customer of for 40 years since I was just a 10-year-old kid.

After extensive bloodwork and an ultrasound which cost 3/4 of my substitute teacher salary, and after having him overnight in their care, I was called up to say goodbye to my precious little boy. I was so upset that a friend was called to come with me as I did not know how I would even drive home that day. When I saw him, he was quite excited and not the way the vet office described him as on death’s door. It had been determined that he had either FIP, cancer, or a heart ailment. They said that he might not even make it back home to me do to his intense breathing. I don’t know about you, but if this news came out of the blue for you, you might be completely lost and in pain. When I returned home, and yes he did make it. I did my research on Facebook and Google for FIP support groups. They were kind and helped me understand my circumstances. They even helped me generously with a treatment plan.

Gadget went from 8.2 pounds when he was not eating 2/9.6 pounds within weeks of the treatment. When I rescued him, I stated that I would do everything in my power to make sure that he had a wonderful life, a good life, and that I would be there for him. And that is what I have done. This little cat can use your support. I am a poor substitute teacher who is not on staff in my Woodbridge school district. I barely make more than minimum wage, without any benefits nor job security. I’m reaching out to you both to those I know and to those I have yet to meet to see if you could have kindness in your heart to help me with these very expensive FIP treatments including more doctor visits, blood tests, x-rays, and anything else necessary to make Gadget completely well once again.
