FIP Warrior:

Fancy Face

Our story

Fancy Face had a bloated belly at 8 weeks old and I took her and her sister to my vet who brushed my concerns aside and said their bellies were just large because they were kittens and had worms. She dewormed them both but Fancy Face was never as active and "wirery" as her sister was. At 6 months of age she started losing coordination in her back legs and they kept giving way underneath her. I immediately rushed her to my vet, hoping it was just some freak injury to her spine or toxoplasmosis that could be cured easily. We did x rays and ran bloodwork which sadly show neurological FIP, my worst nightmare. My vet recommended she see a neurologist to confirm the diagnosis but I opted for treatment of FIP rather then see a neurologist. My vet was skeptical. I wasn't going to put her to sleep. She was too important to me and I loved her too much. I ordered mutian capsules from the FIP warriors board and we started them 2 days later. Sadly the mutian pills did not work for Fancy Face. They never reached her blood brain barrier. We wasted 13 days doing them. Then we switched to shire and started seeing improvement. She regained control of her legs slowly as well as eventually her bladder, which she had also lost, and her bowels. Halfway through treatment Fancy Face developed a cough which my vet prescribed clavamox for and did nothing after 5 days, We went in for a chest x ray and it showed her chest was filled with fluid from pneumonia and now the FIP had moved into her chest. I was so discouraged. I was advised by my vet to put her to sleep at this point because the GS was not working as it should and her body couldn't fight anymore. Dr Pedersen, who was running the clinic trial, seemed to indicate the same. But I wanted her bloodwork run, and that came back nearly perfect, so I refused. We went for a second opinion and started her on a different medication, veraflox for the pneumonia and she started responding to it! for the first time in so long she was climbing and chasing her shadow, something she hadn't done in forever! She was climbing up the cat tree. She's had some set backs as well but Im hopeful the pneumonia is clearing up and then we can hopefully clear the fip up in her chest and she will be free of the FIP for good. My girl is a fighter and she is feisty and strong and has been from day 1.
