View All FIP WarriorsMy ragdoll Cam was 9 months old when he got ill, his main symptom was wobbly walking, although he had always been smaller than his littermate he seemed otherwise healthy, until out of nowhere his walking deteriorated and deteriorated fast. We thought that he had injured himself at first. By the time we got him admitted to the animal hospital 1 week later he could barely stand, let alone walk and we were terrified.
He spent 4 days in hospital, had an MRI and a spinal tap and we finally got a FIP diagnosis and were told it was fatal. During that time I had been doing some research and heard about some off book treatments and luckily our neuro vet had heard of some research trials.
I ended up picking up some SOS vials of meds from UK Fip warriors to get him started on treatment ASAP.
Whilst in hospital his temperature had been dangerously high (causing the swelling in his brain and lesions which led to the wobbly walking). They couldn’t bring it down and were reluctant to let us take him home, but I had been told that GS was the only thing that would cure his fever. It was a scary leap of faith!
We administered his first injection at around 6pm and after a sleepless night checking on him constantly, the next morning his fever had broken and temperature was normal.
He hasn’t looked back since really. He started to move better over the next few days and weeks and his appetite really picked up.
He started at just under 2.8kg and after 84 days he weighed 4.3kg.
We did 98 days of injections - we extended the treatment by 2 weeks because his walking wasn’t 100% perfect. We don’t know if he has some lasting residual damage. That said, he chases his sister, climbs, jumps and is full of energy he is a happy, healthy cat.
