FIP Warrior:

Bambi

Bambi first came into rescue when he was around 7 days old. He was from a colony with several cats and came in extremely poorly. Him and his ‘siblings’ were full of giardia, isospora and cat flu. We nearly lost him several times and it took us a while to get him to a good stage. As he got to around 3-4 weeks old his eye became severely ulcerated to the point he nearly lost it. After lots of different eye drops and a few weeks later, it recovered, during the weeks he was on eye drops, he was also on medication for isospora. When he was around 5 weeks old, we noticed he had a head tilt which was gradually getting worse as he was getting older. He had all the blood tests at our vets, was negative for toxoplasma and everything else that may have caused it so he was then referred to the small animal teaching hospital in Liverpool for an MRI scan at 2 months old. They discovered he had a large middle ear polyp with fluid on the brain so they had to carry out surgery to remove this as soon as he was 5 months old, they put him on steroids and antibiotics until they were able to operate to prevent meningitis which he was at high risk of. He did great through surgery even though it was risky and made a great recovery, he was always going to have the permanent head tilt. In January 2021, we noticed his head tilt was worsening again and he was really going at his ear, our vets referred him back to the referral hospital for another MRI scan just in case the polyp had returned. It was discovered from that MRI that he had very extensive damage to his middle ear, is completely deaf in that ear and had some inflamed tissue  and debris which was bothering him, but surgery wasn’t required unless it started to really bother him. We thought he was fine and had started to get better but then in November he was becoming lethargic, not acting himself, losing weight, had a temperature we couldn’t bring down and was loosing his balance. He looked really sickly so we thought it was linked to his ear again and so did the vets. He was put on antibiotics for a few weeks but they made no difference and he was just deteriorating. They then did blood tests and that’s when we discovered he had FIP as his total proteins were completely off scale and his results were awful. He started to go jaundice and we thought we were going to lose him. A few days after the bloods he had gone really lethargic and just didn’t want to move, we then joined FIP warriors and started him on GS even though we were hesitant at first but are so glad we did

❤️

He’s now doing really well after having a bit of a bumpy start, he struggled to keep fluids in and had to be put on a couple of drips to keep him hydrated.  He is on 5 weeks of pills now and has put on 900g

😻

and is starting to gain his chunk and sassy attitude back. He recently had his 28 day bloods and the results came back almost normal
