FIP Warrior:

Rue

I adopted Rue from a local cat rescue when she was 4 months old. After a couple of weeks she developed a runny nose and cold symptoms, so I took her to the vet for a round of antibiotics. She got better at first, but within a week or two she became very lethargic , wouldn’t eat, wouldn’t play, and I knew something was seriously wrong. I had never heard of FIP until the second trip to the vet when they diagnosed her and pulled 50 ccs of fluid off of her lungs. The vet prescribed GS medication and I ordered it from Chewy, but there were winter storms that delayed the prescription from being delivered. I was desperate to start medication as soon as I could, so I reached out to the rescue I adopted her from and one of their fosters was treating several cats with FIP and said I could use some of their medication! I got to start her on medication the day after she was diagnosed! It took a week and a half to get Chewy’s first delivery. Things were fairly smooth sailing after that. Within 2 days she was eating better, and within a couple weeks she started to gain weight. We are now on day 3 of post-medication observation, and I couldn’t be more thankful! It’s hard to fathom that FIP used to be almost 100% fatal, but science has brought us a wonder drug to give our cats a chance of recovery!
