FIP Warrior:

Timothy

Our furbaby Timmy is very sick, luckily I am a helicopter mom and although he never stopped eating or drinking, we noticed signs early and I took him in on a whim, today he was diagnosed with FIP, he had some issues breathing, his temp was 105.4 and he had pleural effusion (fluid in his chest), after a thoracocentesis (draining said fluid) he is doing a lot better  his temp has come down and he is feeling more like himself. Feline infectious peritonitis or FIP is a viral disease in cats caused by certain strains of a virus called the feline coronavirus. Timmy is fully vaccinated and up to date on preventive care, even with all that, there is no actual way to really protect him from this. As a vet tech, I have helped teach clients with FIP positive patients how to administer injections, how to make their furbaby comfortable during the process, what signs to look out for, given my personal number, I have cared for them like my own in hospital and shed tears of joy when they meet new milestones and tears of sadness when they don’t. The tables have turned and it seems as though we are the ones in need of help this go around. There used to be no real cure for FIP, contracting FIP was a death sentence, but With help from FIP WARRIORS, the incredible support from my coworkers at CTVSEH, and the fact that we caught the symptoms early we have a pretty good treatment plan in place that will hopefully get Timmy back to him self. Unfortunately, we are still in the process of purchasing our home and are limited on what we can spend and completely unable to use our lines of credit. The treatment for FIP is apx 84 days and is estimated to be apx 2,362 dollars not including hospitalization and diagnostics. We are reaching out for any and every bit of assistance we can find in helping pay for Timmy’s treatment, he isn’t just a cat…he has gone to work with me almost every day since he was five weeks old (he is our emotional support coworker), he is our daughters very best friend, and he is part of our family. Any and everything helps so very much even if it’s just sharing and getting his story around.
